“MAD
McMURRAY IN A HURRY”
Matchams – 1st August 2004
Report by: Lynne Hassell
Portsmouth Motox Club held the second round of the Mini Series at Matchams recently, on a well-prepared and watered circuit. The really hot weather did not hinder the riders and all were keen to get started at this most imposing track.
First out were the mighty Autos, and first overall is awarded to Joshua Broadway, claiming a great first in race two, in what was a truly self willed and determined win. Second overall goes to Bethany Farmer and just two points behind the winner with a brilliant first race win. Third overall goes to Joe Jefferies, who shares points with Farmer, and who also had a great third race victory. Blasting into the top six is Oliver McMurray, who rode extremely well, with increasing speed to claim fourth overall. Completing the top six is Toby Cook, and Harvey Clements who take fifth and sixth respectively.
Next out were the Inter 85’s, and taking the top spot is Joe Cundle. Cundle raced extremely well all day to deserve this position. Second overall is awarded to Jackson Evans who was cursed with a puncture in the second race. However, his command of the track was awesome. Third overall is awarded to Lewis Trickett who equals on points with Evans. Trickett raced hard to claim two thirds and a second. Charlie Hughes comes in at fourth overall, who took a great second in the first race. Hughes was followed by Jake Hassell, who takes fifth, with Dudley MacDonald completing the top six.
Next to go were the Juniors and a visit by Jack Rowe who demonstrated some brilliant riding skills in the deep Matchams sand. Rowe takes the overall with three straight wins. Second overall goes to Jake Shipton. Shipton rode well all day with a hat trick of second race positions. Third overall goes to Lloyd Pettett who again takes a hat trick of third race positions. Ryan Butler returned to the club to take fourth overall with two 4th positions and a last race 6th. Tom Ellwood and Daniel Maxey complete the top six.
Next to go were the VMX and visitor Stuart Hayward dominated the group, with a magnificent display over the whoops. Hayward cleans up with three great wins. Second place goes to Chad Sait who had a good day with two seconds and third. (Good luck with the whoops next time!!) Third overall goes to Vince Carpenter who rode well albeit on a borrowed machine, and thankfully was scored despite the number of his bike completely confusing the lap scorers! Fourth overall goes to Brett Sait, and completing the top six, Stan Ash and Rob Ellins finish fifth and sixth respectively.
Waiting impatiently were the AMX and first overall is awarded to Zac Blackwell. Blackwell, recently returning from injury (again!), dominated this group all day with three straight wins. Overall goes to David Needham. Needham showed superb style and control, entertaining the crowds over the huge tabletop. Third overall goes to Phil Lewis who rode consistently well all day. Visitor and ex-PMXC member Scott Thompson takes fourth overall, leaving Ian Tallack and Michael Roberts-Yorke to complete the top six.
The Seniors were next to go and on a one-made crusade was Richard Leat, who appeared to dispatch himself off of the awesome table top and land somewhere in Surrey (or the surrounding area!). Second overall goes to Nicky Watts who had a brilliant days racing with two seconds and a third race position. Third overall goes to Harvey MacDonald showing that the Billy Mackenzie training day really paid off in the rough deep sand of Matchams. Fourth overall goes to Kurt Freeguard who had a good day with a third and two fourths. Completing the top six is Jamie Watts and Luke Priddle.
Last to go were the Inter Open class. Kristian Whatley, who showed that
he is a true champion with three straight wins, reigned overall victor.
Second overall goes to Max Tranah. Tranah rode outstandingly chasing Whatley
hard all day to secure three second race positions. Jamie Tempest blasted
off the start to charge into third overall. Fourth is awarded to visitor
Neil Whatton, and completing the top six is Daniel Latham and Jazz Beach.
