“Jordan Carries Away The Win” Report by Kay Turner Portsmouth MX Club Winter Round 4 Swanmore – 8th January 2012 Image courtesy of Click466 Portsmouth Motocross Club made a welcome return to the race track, having not raced since November. All riders were chomping at the bit to get their wheels on the muddy circuit, and with 160 riders turning out to brave the chilly conditions, the meeting was a busy one but ran smoothly, a great way to start off the new year. The Seniors took to the line first with Jordan Carrier storming straight into the lead, remaining out front to secure all three wins, Dan Maxey denying him a total domination as he took the lead for one lap, but Carrier soon regained the lead to finish in top spot. Maxey made a great return after being out due to injury for a few months, and was soon hot on Carriers tail to try to bag a win. Three comfortable second places secured him the runner-up spot. An impressive debut in his new class for Jordan Bachelor who showed the circuit no mercy as he powered his way straight into the top three from the drop of the gate. Battling hard with Denton throughout the day, he managed to push his way into third spot in each race to take home third overall. There was a brilliant battle for the win in the Inter Open class with regular winner Michael Ellis having to work hard for his usually easy lead as Tallon Aspden led from the drop of the gate. But Ellis soon took over at the front and secured the first two wins and the overall, despite crashing in race three he still pushed his way into second in the final moto. Aspden was on fire as he blasted his way around the tacky circuit, and just narrowly missing out on the lead in the opening races he took charge in race three to secure the win and finish just two points behind Ellis in second overall. Conner Allison found himself out in front of the group and rode impressively all day, battling hard to secure his positions, a brilliant third place in race two rewarding him highly and ended the day in third overall. The remaining riders in the Inter 85 could have sat on the sidelines as one rider totally annihilated the rest of the pack, Henry Siddiqui charging to the first corner, miles ahead of the other riders and remained comfortably out front until the chequered flag waved, to secure the overall win. A brilliant battle pursued between Gordon, Jones, Cole, Cook & Burges with Aaron Gordon pushing that extra bit harder to secure two second places and the overall. Charlie Cole & Liam Jones went head-to-head and came too close for comfort, as both riders went down hard, but Jones recovered quicker to push his way into third spot in the second moto, securing third overall on the day. The Autos and the Juniors joined forces and the track was awash with bikes and bodies from the first corner as the slippery conditions caught a number of riders out. But Liam Brosnan in the Juniors made light work of the track, charging into the lead in the second & third motos to secure the overall, ahead of Olly Davidson. Davidson put on a commanding performance, and battled in amongst the front runners from the off, just missing out on a win, but two seconds rewarded him with second overall. Todd Leadbitter worked hard, and gradually picked off riders as each lap passed, and by race three he had worked his way into fourth spot, rewarding him with third overall. Once again Toby Potter seemed unbeatable in the Autos, leading the entire pack by the last race, and secured two group wins to take home the overall win. But newcomer Bobby Bruce took over the lead in the second moto, flying passed the finish flag with ease and with two second places added to his points tally, he finished second overall. Callum Clarke had an outstanding day on the track, leaving his rivals way behind as he remained high up in the top six all day, a brilliant fourth in race three securing him third overall. The start gate was packed solid as the VMX, AMX Novice and EVO riders grouped together, and roared into action up the start straight, with pile ups inevitable at the first corner. Mark Morris was too far out in front to worry about the carnage behind him, and secured three straight wins in the VMX to take home the overall. It was a Shaun battle behind between Hayles and Brooker, with Hayles leading Brooker in the first two motos, but Brooker took over in race three to finish in second, but Hayles had done enough to finish second overall, with Brooker in third overall. A number of Novice riders appeared high up the leaderboard, with Jordan Talmage once again the leading figure in his class, battling to keep brother off his heels, and with two seconds and a third he secured the overall win. Perry Skeates went the extra mile in race three and nudged his way into the lead, racing hard in his other motos to score highly, and ended the day in second overall. A huge crash on the first corner left Scott Sanders scrambling to find his bike amongst the carnage but soon remounted and worked his socks off to work his way into seventh place, and after two impressive fifths he scored a brilliant third overall. A handful of EVO riders worked their way in amongst the other riders, but Paul Webb was outstanding as he finished sixth in the whole group in the final moto to reward him with another EVO race win and the overall class victory. Kev Randell and Mark James followed him home further down the field to finish in second and third. The last group of the day provided some outstanding racing, some top class AMX riders donning the start gate. Zac Blackwell sped into the lead on the first lap of each race and remained out in front to secure each race win, but had a rampaging Liam Garland hot on his heels in the second & third motos, Garland taking the lead in the final race as he had pushed Blackwell to the limit. As the track conditions became very tacky Garland slipped off the track but impressively held onto it but lost the lead again to Blackwell, but two second places and a third rewarded him second overall. Rob Muscat went head-to-head with Daniel Latham in all three motos, but although Muscat managed to pass him in the last two races, Latham secured third overall with a brilliant second place in race one.
