Report by Kay Turner

Heavy rain plus additional watering the night before made track conditions perfect for the ninth round of Portsmouth Motocross Clubs Summer Series at the Allington Lane circuit recently.  An improved turnout of riders provided the awaiting crowd with some exciting action.

Spectacular Senior action came courtesy of Jamie Tempest, Daniel Latham and Ryan Allen.  Tempest didn’t quite manage a win, but was still awarded the overall victory with three second places.  Latham and Allen tied on points, but with two wins to his name, Latham took the second spot with Allen following up with third, claiming the win in race two.

Unperturbed by the Veterans mixed into the equation, AMX supremo Luke Blanchard made winning look easy, adding one or two whips into his routine to take the overall victory. With the return of David Needham to interrupt the normal race order, Sean Barnsdale had to fight harder than usual, but took second overall with two seconds, Needham taking second in race two to take third overall.

A stylish ride from Oliver Rusby crowned him the Inter Open king on the day, with two wins.  Ashley Bailey stayed in contention to take second overall, following Rusby over the finish line in the final two motos.  A disastrous second corner in race three left Danny Urry stuck high up on the burm, but his win in race one gave him valuable points and third overall.

The pain of Matchams left at Ringwood, Inter 85 rider Gordon Appleton breezed into to first place, three brilliant wins truly deserved.  Aaron Withers was close behind, finishing in second in all three motos to be awarded second overall, with Oliver Paine finishing in third.  Narrowly beaten in race one by Lloyd Pettett, Paine stepped up the pace to finish in third in the remaining races.

Nail-biting action from the Junior class, with race three providing the closest action of the day.  With continual battles between Liam Garland and Billy Hare seeing Garland taking the first two wins, Hare left it to the last corner of the last lap to storm past Garland to take the heat win.  Garland took the overall with Hare in second.  Steven Robinson rode consistently throughout the meeting, finishing third in all three races to finish in third.

The Auto class waited patiently as the last group to ride, and Joe Jefferies made a welcome appearance to take the overall victory, riding brilliantly all day.  Joshua Coleman was hot on his heels to take second overall with three seconds, keeping a very close eye on his usual top spot.  Jamie Cox rode whole-heartedly to take third overall with three well deserved third places.
