ROUND 7 - Bere Regis
Report
by Kay Turner
A dismal turnout
of just over 120 riders attended the seventh round of Portsmouth Motocross
Clubs Summer Series at Bere Regis. Rain
clouds hung overhead but soon cleared to let the sun shine down on some
exciting racing.
The
Junior class were first up the steep start straight and first round the bend
came Max Acres who took the first two wins and victory overall.
Only an off in the final race left him without the final win.
Taking nothing away from the brilliant rider, Oliver McMurray chased
hard to take second overall, grabbing the last race win to equal Acres’
points tally. Staying in close
contention was third overall rider Steven Robinson who battled hard throughout
the day. Michael Denton was on
top form again with a fourth overall tucked under his belt, a third in race
two a great result. The Clubs
favourite lass, Bethany Farmer rode her heart out throughout the day, staying
in touch with the top runners, fourth in race one a great start to the day,
adding a fifth and seventh to finish fifth overall.
Kieran Stevens stayed ahead of brother Kyle in all three motos to take
sixth overall, passing the finish line in sixth, seventh and fifth.
Joshua
Coleman took control of the Auto class, riding the track with ease and took
all three wins and the overall. Ever-improving
Freddie Lambeth kept a cool head to finish in second overall, a broken
throttle cable for Oliver Evans handed Lambeth second in race two, and added
two third places to keep him ahead of Taylor Smith.
Smith fought hard all day keeping the pursuing riders from snatching
away his third overall. Oliver
Evans thanked his lucky stars for the two second places he gained in races one
and three and put his last position in race two behind him thanks to
mechanical problems to finish in fourth overall.
A great performance by Matthew Dowse left him in fifth overall.
Improving race after race, the youngster stayed in touch with the
leaders. Consistent seventh
places saw Hamish Stewart-Ross push himself to the limit and a brilliant
fourth in the final race left him closing the top six.
Continuing
to dominate the Senior class, Jamie Tempest took all three victories away from
second-placed Clayton Pearce who led race one until a crash on a tight corner
saw him settle for fourth but was hot on Tempests heels in the remaining motos.
Harry Seymour rode a great race all day keeping the unfortunate Aaron
Bowden at bay, a broken collarbone prematurely ending Bowden’s day.
A second and two thirds handed Seymour third overall.
Visitor Craig Callow bolted out of the gate to take fourth overall,
finishing in fifth, fifth and fourth, just ahead of Daniel Strudwick.
Improving through the day, Daniel pushed hard to fight his way through
the pack to steadily work his way up the leader board, finishing in eighth,
sixth and fifth to take fifth overall. Keelan
Gartside finished in sixth overall after racing neck and neck with Alex
Tarrant, the two riders finished side by side in the final moto and seventh
place was awarded to both riders. But
a sixth and an eighth position gave Gartside the upper hand.
The
dust flew as the AMX and VMX thrashed it out as the two classes became one.
The AMX lads took over four of the top six positions, Luke Blanchard
riding at his best, staying seated and took all three wins and the victory.
Sean Barnsdale distinctive riding style took him to second overall with
three consistent second places. Chris
Southcott got beaten to the chequered flag by VMX rider Martin Bradbury in
race one, but stormed into third place in the remaining motos to take third
overall. John Howett raced hard
all day, with throttle wide open he chopped and changed positions with Richard
Paine, who just missed out on a top position thanks to a puncture on the last
lap in race one. Howett finished
in fourth overall with two fifths and a fourth.
Martin Bradbury was the highest ranking Veteran rider in the mixed
class, bike problems in race three leaving him lower down than he could have
been, but a third in race one left him fifth overall ahead of his younger
rivals. After sustaining a
serious knee injury at Matchams, Alan Scott returned to take sixth overall,
riding through the pain barrier and giving the youngsters a run for their
money. A sixth and two seventh
places provided him with the final top six position.
The
popular Inter Open class provided some exhilarating racing, with Oliver Rusby
taking the victory with two wins, only being beaten in race two by
second-placed Ashley Bailey who had the misfortune to crash on lap one in the
final moto, leaving him struggling in fifth place.
But the win added to his second in race one gave him just enough points
to beat Jake Hassell in third. Hassell missed out on second by two points,
scoring a third, fourth and second. Fourth
overall went to George Gough who rode a hearty race in all three motos,
stepping up a notch for the final race to finish in fourth, just behind fifth
overall rider Jacob Myers. Disaster
in race one saw Myers finishing last in 23rd spot, but proving he
can ride with the best, he finished with two thirds in the final races.
A great effort by Edward Upton awarded him sixth overall.
Unable to repeat his brilliant sixth in race one, he still finished in
credible ninth and tenth places to finish in sixth.
Consistency
was the order of the day in the Inter 85 class, with all top three riders
scoring the same points throughout the day.
Aaron Withers took the victory with three convincing wins, ahead of
Oliver Paine who rode at his best to take three seconds and second overall.
Former Auto Club Champion Jack Scarlett showed he still has Champion
potential, closing the top runners down throughout the day.
Only recently out of plaster after breaking his wrist, Scarlett rode
proudly past the finish flag in third position in all motos and was awarded
third overall. Another fine
performance by James Windsor to finish in fourth overall, two fourths and a
fifth to his name, finishing just ahead of Jed Hassell.
A brilliant fourth in race two left him well ahead of sixth overall
rider Joshua Hipgrave who finished sixth overall.
A great result for Hipgrave who rode steadily all day improving in the
last to finish in sixth after finishing seventh in his opening races.
