“Snow Joke”
Report by Kay Turner
With 220 riders
travelling to the Foxholes circuit near Salisbury, a snow-covered track was a
surprise to everyone. But all
riders braved the sub-zero temperatures and sloshed around the thawing circuit
to provide some entertaining racing.
A full line of
Senior riders battled it out first, with Sam Sunderland adapting to the
freezing weather and took first place with two victories. A great performance
by Jamie Watts who took second overall, a long-awaited and well-deserved win
in race two helping his cause. Ben
Anstie rode hole-heartedly all day to finish in third overall, a third in race
one adding vital points to his tally. Fourth
overall went to a determined Luke Priddle rode a steady race to finish
seventh, eighth and sixth. Daniel
Brackenbury and Aaron Bowden fought it out for the remaining top six
positions, with Brackenbury just edging ahead by one point to take fifth.
Just being beaten at the finish in the first by Bowden he went on to
race ahead in the second, but had to settle behind in third.
Bowden couldn’t match his brilliant fourth in race one, struggling in
the second but pulled back to tenth in the final moto to take sixth overall.
Another full
line up of Inter Open riders opened their throttles wide to make it to the
first corner. Lewis Trickett made
it his day, winning all three motos, with Oliver Rusby hot on his tail in
second overall with race three providing some very close racing between the
two riders. A consistent ride
from Jake Hassell awarded him third overall, two fourths a third left him just
two points off second place. A
slight hitch in race one spurred Ryan Maguire to step it up a notch to take
fourth overall, as did Ashley Bailey. Uncharacteristically
finishing in 13th place, Bailey ensured his fifth overall with a
last race third. A great sixth
overall for Marty Coombes, finally making his name in the top runnings.
The freezing
conditions were no match for the hot racing from the Auto riders.
Joshua Coleman made winning all three races look easy, followed by
Jamie Cox and Oliver Evans, who also had consistent days, Cox finishing in
second and Oli Evans pushing hard to take three third places.
David Keet followed suit to finish all races in fourth, with another
great performance by Hamish Stewart-Ross battling his way into fifth overall
with two fifths. Conner Lopez
pushed himself to the limit to take sixth overall, with two sixths and a
seventh.
Nail-biting
action came courtesy of the AMX riders, a class field led by Nicky Watts. An
outstanding performance by the KTM rider who won all three motos to take the
victory, with Luke Blanchard some distance behind.
Second overall for Blanchard with two seconds and a fourth, with John
Ford finishing third overall. Race
two saw Ford miss out on a higher position due to a first corner tumble.
A 11th in race three scuppered Wes Hallawells chances of
achieving top three status, but his two thirds helped him into fourth overall.
Sean Barnsdale continued his dominance in the adult class with a fifth
overall, his best coming in race two where he finished fourth, with Phil Lewis
returning to retain his Championship status with a sixth overall.
The Veterans
were dominated by the four-stroke Honda duo of Chad Sait and Richard Paine.
Paine took the victory with two wins and a second, just being beaten by
Chad Sait in race one. Sait
followed up his win with a second and third to give him second overall.
Shaun Brooker pushed his KTM to the limit with two thirds and a
brilliant second to give him third overall.
A great performance by fourth overall rider Darren Miles, riding
consistently all day with three fourth places.
Shaun Skeates and Ian Birkett battled each other throughout the day,
with Skeates snatching fifth overall away from Birkett thanks to his two
fifths and sixth placings. Birkett
followed in closely with a seventh, fifth and sixth to finish in sixth
overall.
Another good day
at the office for Rob Muscat who donned the victors crown in the Inter 85
class. Three straight wins ahead
of a fine performance by Chris Chapman who finished second in all three races
to take second overall. Aaron
Withers followed close on their tails, two thirds aiding his effort to take
third overall. Narrowly missing
out on a top three spot, Lloyd Pettett took fourth overall with ease, with two
fourths and a third. Daniel Maxey and Christopher Noyce chopped and changed
positions throughout all three races, with Maxey just taking fifth overall
with two fifths and a sixth, Noyce finishing in sixth with two sixths and a
seventh.
The Juniors
waited patiently till the last, and didn’t disappoint the watching crowds.
Ryan Fellowes rode a great race in all three motos and took overall
victory with three wins. Second overall was awarded to Max Acres who continues to
prove his worth in the 65s, finishing second, third and fourth.
Fraser Viner missed a win by a whisker but third overall was his,
finishing fourth, fifth and second in the last.
Steven Robinson should have been placed higher but a sixth in race one
left him in fourth overall, two third places highlighting his true ability.
After a great start and finishing in second, Billy Hare had to settle
for fifth with Michael Denton chasing the leaders to take sixth overall,
finishing in seventh, fourth and sixth.
