ROUND 7 - Bere Regis

Report by Kay Turner

Portsmouth Motocross Club recently staged the seventh round of their Summer Championship at Bere Regis in Dorset.  Forecast rain stayed away and with the sun high in the sky temperatures were hotting up on and off the track.

Although a lower turnout that usual, those who attended continued to put on a good show for the spectators and fought just as hard to gain high positions.

With reduced numbers, the adult groups were joined together.  AMX rider Ian Tallack took complete control of the group, and all his hard work and determination paid off to achieve three wins, his rivals well behind him. Three second positions awarded Allen Waring second overall, fighting hard to pass Tallack but a few unlucky spills left him unable to catch the winner.  Keeping up with the youngsters, VMX rider Martin Bradbury scrapped his way to the front, leading race three, and stood his ground in all motos to finish in fourth, third and third to take third overall.  The veterans continued to dominate the field, and Chad Sait took fourth overall, remaining behind the battle between Bradbury & Steve Lyons, finishing in fifth in the last two races.  Alan Scott battled it out amongst the youngsters, mastering the whoops with ease and finished in fifth overall.  AMX Lee Wharton could have placed much higher, but trailed in at the back of the field in the final moto. Thanks to his brilliant fourth in race two though he finished in sixth overall.

Complete domination from the off by Senior rider Scott Elderfield who took all three wins ahead of the field.  A close battle for second place ensued with two riders tying on points but Harry Seymour won the battle by riding a superb race in the closing moto to finish third, and took second overall.  Oliver Rusby was flying high in the opening races, finishing in second and third, and third overall was awarded on the day.  A superb set of races by Elliot Reeves saw him pursuing the front runners, and finished in fourth overall after the passing the flag in fifth, fourth and fourth.  Bike problems in race two left Thomas Speer away from the front of the field, but racing at full speed with race results of third and second in the remaining motos left him in fifth overall.  Narrowly being pipped to the first corner, Josh Scott continued his run of top six positions, and had constant battles with Reeves to finish in fourth and fifth to finish sixth overall.

The Inter Open class welcomed back local lad Jake Shipton who, even with a spill in race one, led every race with such ease and perfection that overall victory was secured as soon as the gate dropped.  A close scrap between Mitchell Bligh and Cameron Mills saw the two riders swapping positions throughout the races, but with Bligh’s extra push to snatch two second places ahead of Mills, Bligh took second overall ahead of Cam who finished third overall.  A set of three consistent and steady races awarded Ryan Carter with a well-deserved fourth overall, finishing fourth in all three motos.  Closing Carter down, Jack Scarlett rode a fine race, battling hard to keep Kurt Bond behind him in the final moto but just missed out on achieving three fifth positions on the last lap, but two fifths and a sixth were enough to award him fifth overall.  Adam Bravery rode magnificently to finish in sixth overall, staying hot on the heels of his rivals in front.

Great action in the Inter 85 class saw Billy Hare taking the win.  Victory in race one led to an unfortunate spill in race two, but with a second in race three and Josh Brines unfortunate DNF in race one, victory went to Hare.  An exceptional performance on his return from injury saw Lewis Moyle fight his way to the top, with second and third positions providing him with second overall.  With injury out of the way in practice, Darren Wingar worked hard to ignore the pain and battled hard at the front of the field to finish in third overall, a third in race one his best result.  An unfortunate tussle in race two saw Kayleigh Durston just miss out on a higher position, but her brilliant second in race one aided her cause to finish in fourth overall.  A concerted effort from Andrew Hutchison paid off to leave him in fifth overall, a third in race two his highest position on the day, with Kieran Gabriele finishing in another top position, sixth overall his reward in return for some hard work on the track.

The Junior class was once again headed by the talented Joshua Coleman who left the rest of the field in his dust trail and took all three wins to take the overall victory.  Harvey Clements showed great determination and a potential for a race win under his belt ensured in the near future.  Two second places and a third awarded him second overall.  A whole-hearted effort came from Bethany Farmer who battled her way up the leader-board after a nasty crash at the start, and after a brilliant second in the final moto, third overall was awarded.  Determined to close down the winner, Sam Baggott continued his run of good scores, two fourth positions awarding him fourth overall in front of visiting rider Luke Oldfield in fifth.  Another great effort by Taylor Smith who continues to improve race after race, and with two fifth positions under his crash helmet, sixth overall was awarded.

Auto rider Josh Bunter snatched all three wins, keeping a good distance between himself and his rivals to become overall winner on the day.  Harry Wichman continued his run of brilliant results, and with two second positions, took second overall.  A reliable bike saw Hamish Stewart-Ross return to the top of the points table, and with three confident rides he achieved three third places, and third overall.  Following in big brothers boot prints, Tommy Hutchison rode a near-perfect race all day to finish in fourth overall, crossing the line in fourth, fourth and fifth ahead of Aaron Gordon who followed Hutchison home in every race, trying his hardest in each moto to overtake on the tight track.  Another great performance much to the delight of his spectators by Charlie Way to finish in sixth overall, sixth in race one his ultimate ride on the day.
