Report by Kay Turner

The popular hilly Foxhills circuit near Swindon welcomed more than 200 riders for Portsmouth Motocross Clubs annual two-day event on the Bank Holiday weekend.  Glorious sunshine and sweltering heat was warmly welcomed by all who attended.   All those who rode on Saturday were awarded trophies at the end of the day with Sunday being the tenth round of the Clubs Summer Club Championship, and a brilliant weekend was had by all.

The Auto riders were the first group to tackle the breathtaking track, and without having to endure the gigantic hills, Josh Bunter stamped his name on the winners trophy taking all three wins.  David Keets unlucky departure in race two resulted in Harry Wichman taking over second spot, two thirds aiding his cause.  A magnificent ride from Elliot Phillips placed him on the third step of the podium.            Sundays racing looked set to be a repeat performance, but Hamish Stewart-Ross’s bike gremlins stayed away for the day and with a brilliant last race win, took the overall victory.  David Keet also had a turn of good luck and with two seconds and a third took second overall.  Josh Bunter was heading for overall victory with two race wins but an unfortunate spill denied him the win, but still finished the day in third overall.

A near-full line up of AMX riders deafened the spectators on the start line, and there were plenty of thrills and spills throughout the weekend as the riders went full throttle around the awesome track.  Luke Blanchard reigned supreme on day one, winning all three motos to take the top trophy.  Hot on his heels, Chris Southcott followed behind in all races to take second overall.  Battling hard to keep Lee Foyle on his back wheel, Luke Lambert rode hard to take third overall.

Sunday saw Lee Foyle take charge of the class and took the overall win.  Winning race one gave Luke Blanchard the advantage over Harvey MacDonald, with both riders changing machines throughout the day. Blanchard took second overall ahead of MacDonald in third.

Stevie Lyons took complete control of the VMX class winning the group on both days, four wins to his credit over the weekend.  Phil Coid gave Lyons a run for his money on day one, winning the first race and took second overall.  Shaun Brooker kept the front runners in his sights and finished third in all three motos to take the final podium trophy.

Day two once again saw Lyons take the lead, two wins in the opening motos and overall victory was awarded.  Martin Bradbury charged around the track to catch the leader, a second and two thirds awarding him second overall.  An unfortunate puncture left Brooker out of the running on day two, so it was Chad Sait who took over third position, keeping his nose in front of his rivals to finish in third, fourth and fifth.

Breathtaking action came courtesy of the Senior group, with nearly 40 riders raring to go behind the start gate.  Daniel Latham returned to his old club to take control of day one, two victory’s ensuring the top trophy went his way.  Jordan Owen followed the leader home in each race two take second overall.  A steady, strong performance from Jonathan Pickett awarded him third overall, a third in race one his top position.

Sunday saw complete domination from Sam Sunderland.  Brilliant riding ensured all three wins and the overall victory were his.  Jamie Tempest put day ones bad luck behind him and even on borrowed machinery still managed to finish in second overall, two second places adding valuable points to his total.  A bad weekend in the bike department for the MacDonald brothers didn’t deter Dudley to battle on and with a brilliant third in the final moto, third overall was awarded.

The Inter Open class saw more accidents than most but still provided some brilliant racing, with one rider completely dominating the whole weekend.  Jansen Day’s outstanding performance on the track left him undoubtedly the overall winner on both days, a full set of six wins throughout the meeting.  Jordan Moyle rode a brilliant set of races on Saturday, two seconds and a fourth awarding a great second overall.  Pushing himself further up the field throughout the day, Mitchell Bligh’s results improved to a great second in the last to reward him with third overall.

Day two saw Jansen Day yet again take a straight set of wins to finish as overall victor.  Jonathan Jones gave Day a challenge on Sunday, chasing him to the line to finish second in all three motos to take second overall.  An horrendous crash saw Jake Carey’s name missing from the top three, so Mitchell Bligh took the honours with three consistent fourth places to take third overall.

The unstoppable Rob Muscat continued his dominating run in the Inter 85 class, taking all three wins on Saturday to take home the top trophy.  Fraser Viner battled hard to snatch a win, settling for two second places to take second overall.  A second place in race two plus top six positions saw Billy Hare take the final top trophy, finishing in third overall.

With the departure of the top riders, day two saw a new winner, namely Ritchie Rodrick.  A hard battle was on for the lead, Rodrick taking all three wins.  Billy Hare brilliantly led race one until the last lap, and continued to stay at the front of the field to take three second places and second overall.   A close battle pursued for third place, a set of riders all vying for the position.  But with steadily improving positions throughout the day and a last gasp effort in the final moto, Loukas Maggio stole the glory, and with a third in the last he took third overall.

One rider completely dominated the Junior class over the weekend.  Joshua Coleman was unstoppable and his faultless performance on the track left him the overall winner on both days, achieving a full set of six wins.  Overall victory was his on day one.  Taylor Smith rode at his best and with two seconds on Saturday, second overall was awarded.  A close battle for third overall saw Matthew Dowse ride consistently to finish in fourth in all three races to take third.

With another victory in the bag for Coleman on Sunday with a straight set of wins, Sam Baggott worked hard on the track to finish in second in all three motos, awarding him second overall.  Matthew Dowse continued his good run, finishing in third again on the day, a third in race three his best result.
