Report by Kay Turner

A beautiful sunny Easter day welcomed just under 200 riders to the Foxholes circuit in Salisbury for the third round of Portsmouth Motocross Clubs Summer Series.  Track conditions were dry but the watering kept dust to a minimum for most of the meeting.

The Inter 85 class started off proceedings with Lloyd Pettett making winning look so easy in race one, but had to surrender his lead to visitor James Dunn who took the overall, but Pettett stayed on his tail to finish in second overall.  Oliver Paine battled hard to keep the front pair in his sights and finished in third overall with a second, fourth and third.  Visitor Josh Turner powered his 150F around the rock-hard circuit battling hard with Paine throughout the motos to finish in fourth overall.   Billy Hare took the bit between his teeth and didn’t get deterred by a couple of crashes throughout the day.  Bursting to get onto top spot, he rode consistently well and fought hard to pass his rivals to finish in fifth overall ahead of Darren Wingar who battled all three motos to stay within reach of the front runners.  Three sixth positions left him in sixth overall.

Consistency and the determination to win paid off for Junior rider Joshua Coleman who took the first two race wins to finish victor.  Jordan Bachelor snatched the opportunity to benefit from Coleman’s slip up in race three to grab a win and finished in second overall.  Levi Coombes rode another three steady races, consistently finishing in third to take third overall.  A couple of bad starts didn’t bode well for young Beth Farmer but a determined effort and pure grit pushed her well up the field to finish in fourth overall.  An awe-inspiring performance by Sam Baggott was very impressive and a fifth overall was his reward, a fourth in race one his top result on the day.  Daniel Lawler tied on points to be awarded sixth overall on the day, a steady race ridden throughout all motos, achieving a brilliant fourth in race two highlighting how far this youngster will push himself to get to top spot.

Auto pilot David Keet left the rest of the field far behind and was lapping riders quickly into each race, taking all three wins to finish in top spot.  Hamish Stewart-Ross rode a determined race, and two second places awarded him a gallant second overall.  Visiting rider Joe House enjoyed his time at the front of the field, and a fourth and two thirds left him in third overall.  A great start for Aaron Gordon and fifth and fourth positions awarded him fourth overall, ahead of Harry Wichman.  This young rider continues to be an inspiration in the Auto class, and a sixth and two fifth positions provided him with fifth overall and a higher position will soon be on the cards.  Leigh Lidster had a good day of racing and two seventh places provided extra points to his tally and a great sixth overall.

A rough and tumble set of races saw the dust really flying in the AMX class. Zac Blackwell returned to his old club to take the first win, but a fall and no show left him out of the overalls.  Chris Southcott punched his fist in delight to take the remaining race wins and overall victory, doing so in fine style, leaving the rest of the pack far behind.  Bar bashing and fantastic racing between Harvey MacDonald and Allen Waring saw them scrapping for second overall, but MacDonald took the position, Waring’s unfortunate crash in the opening moto leaving him battered and bruised but still grabbed third overall.  A lot of hard work and grit paid off for Ian Tallack and with a fourth in race three ending his day on a high, fourth overall was his final position.  Still relishing on his win from the previous meeting, Tom Moore started the day off well, and he continued to battle with the front runners to stay in contention of a top spot.  He finally finished in fifth overall ahead of newcomer Lee Wharton.  Sixth overall was his result for a day of battling with Tallack, and a fifth in race three was a show of courage and determination in the progressively worsening conditions.

The VMX group provided some exciting action, Steve Lyons winning races one and two, but a fall just past the finish line left him chasing the pack to finish in third, but still came away with the overall victory.  Chad Sait chased Lyons all day but powered his Kawasaki to victory in the last, and took second overall.  Alan Scott steadily improved his results throughout the day, saving all his energy for race three finishing in second to finish the day in third overall.  A new name to add to the front running veterans, David Howell worked hard to chase down Scott, a fourth and two fifths awarding him fourth overall.  Jamie Winbourne found his form to finish back in the top six, two sixths and fifth rewarding him with fifth overall.  Recovering from his nasty start straight crash at Swanmore meeting, Andy Griggs battled his way through the field to finish in sixth overall.

Making winning look too easy, Senior rider Sebastian Osborne once again snatched overall victory away for his rivals, three wins to his name.  Jamie Tempest stayed in touch and slotted into second overall with three second places.  Another great day on the race track for Elliot Reeves whose results provided him enough points to finish in third overall, two fourths and a fifth keeping him just ahead of Harry Seymour.  Seymour gave Osborne a run for his money in race two, leading the race and maintaining his speed to stay ahead of the 33 other riders to finish in third in races two and three, and being awarded fourth overall.  Aaron Bowden’s opening race proved how well he can ride when nasty crashes aren’t added into the equation, a third position added to his seventh and eighth awarding him fifth overall.  The Hole-Shot King that is Josh Scott finally showed his true colours on the track, with two sixth positions rewarding all his hard work with a sixth overall.  Must’ve been the good luck kiss that did it!

A large group of Inter Open riders stormed up the start straight but it was to be Gareth Padgett who won all three races to take the overall victory.  A magnificent and bet-inspired second overall went to Mitchell Bligh who saved the best for last to finish in second in the final moto.  Christopher Noyce gave Padgett a run for his money in the opening moto taking the lead mid-race, and finished in second in races one and two to be awarded third overall.  Daniel Maxey fought well and stayed at the front of the pack to add a fourth overall to his string of good runs, two third places adding valuable points to his tally.  Jordan Moyle pushed himself to the limit and put in some extra effort in race three, a fourth his reward and fifth overall on the day.  A great sight to see Kurt Bond back to full fitness after his bad leg break last year, and must be proud with his sixth overall position at the meeting, a fourth in race two a sign of better things to come.
