BERE REGIS – 18th May 2008
Portsmouth Motocross Club
Summer Series Round 7
Bere Regis in
Dorset was the setting for Portsmouth Motocross Clubs seventh round of their
Summer Club Championship. With the
track being constantly watered, the 125 riders who arrived were hoping for a
minimal amount of dust, but glorious sunshine all day meant the dust reared its
ugly head to cause problems around the track.
Roaring
out of the start gate to commence proceedings were the VMX.
With exciting racing guaranteed, Paul Williams took such an early lead he
left the rest of the pack miles behind, and secured three impressive wins to
take the overall. A group of riders
pursued with Alan Scott being the next man in line.
Battling hard with various riders he soon slotted neatly into second spot
in all three motos to take second overall.
Shaun Skeates once again remained consistent near the front of the pack,
two third places assuring third overall was his.
With
two months to go until he could return to racing, Martin Bradbury donned his
gear and boots, unloaded the Yamaha, and gave the V-sign to a full recovery from
his injury and sat waiting on the startline.
Taking it easy and letting the rest of the pack go, he rapidly picked off
one rider after another to head straight into the top ten with ease.
By race two he was powering hard to pass even more riders to slot into
fourth spot, and pushed himself a bit harder to move into third in the last.
Fourth overall on his return to racing after eight months sitting on the
sidelines wasn’t a bad effort, and riders should be wary of when he comes back
fully fit and actually tries!! Neil
Jenkinson was back on fine form as the dust started flying.
Chopping and changing positions with the top boys saw Jenkinson finishing
well ahead of the rest of the pack in fourth in motos one and three to secure
fifth overall. After tucking
himself neatly into third in the closing race, Martin Turner remained consistent
only marginally dropping back a place or two to finish fifth, fifth and sixth to
finish sixth overall.
With
dust still hanging in the air, the AMX boys stormed off for another day of
brilliant showmanship by all involved. Even
with only a small number of riders, the action was jam-packed with Sean Lock and
Tom Moore putting on a great show at the front.
Lock appeared completely unbeatable, stretching his lead in the opening
motos to grab the wins to take the overall victory.
But Moore was determined to grab a win for himself and a smooth pass over
the finish line left him leading the way with three laps to go.
His hard work earned him second overall. Peter Herring proved his capability on the track, and with
improving results throughout the day, ending the day on a high in third, secured
third overall.
Impressive
and extremely rapid starts ensured Chris Southcott was always out of the gate
first, and his prominent figure near the front of the field ensured high
placings. A fourth and third
provided vital points to ensure a place in the top six, but disaster on the last
lap of the final race blew his chances of placing higher.
Having to push the bike over the line due to mechanical gremlins left him
reeling in 11th place, but his earlier races secured him fourth
overall. On equal points with Southcott, Scott Wallis revelled in the
dusty conditions to finish high up the leader board. A set of steady but persistent rides secured Wallis fifth
overall, crossing the line in fifth, seventh and fourth.
Wes Thomas deservedly finished in sixth overall after an impressive ride
throughout the day. Pushing all his previous bad luck behind him, he rode
confidently and assertively to keep well within reach of the front runners.
He kept on the gas in the final moto to pass the chequered flag in fifth,
a truly deserved reward.
Once
the Seniors flew out the gate, the dust had no chance to settle. With bikes and
bodies flying in all directions, the racing hotted up as did the temperature on
the track. Jono Parker-Davies was a
clear winner, a perfect and impressive set of races awarding him with three wins
to take the overall. Jake Hassell
fought hammer and tongs to work his way into second overall, non-stop battles
with the front-runners inspiring him to step up the pace to grab two second
places. A brilliant performance by Tom White saw him lead the final
moto until he had to finally succumb to Parker-Davies. But with two brilliant third places, he safely took home
third overall.
A
brilliant performance from Kristian Barry left him flying high near the front
runners, a highly commendable third in race two the highlight of his day, and
his high scoring secured him fourth overall.
With the track recently watered in the second block, Chris Bick grabbed
the chance to exult in the mud to stay well ahead of his rivals and finished in
second. Persistent finishes in his
other races and the high points achieved in race two secured him fifth overall.
Jake Myers rode magnificently throughout the meeting, remaining ahead of
the majority of the field for the last two races. Having his work cut out trying to keep a rampaging Josh Scott
from grabbing his placings he just held his positions to finish in 13th,
fifth and fourth to grab sixth overall, just one point ahead of Scott.
The
Inter Open class took to the track where battle commenced between Daniel Maxey
and Darren Wingar. Maxey narrowly missed out on a straight set of wins after
crashing heavily with Wingar who took the lead and the win.
But Maxey grabbed the lead back in the remaining motos and took home the
overall win. Successfully grabbing
his 11th holeshot in a row, Darren Wingar kept Maxey well within his
sights but rode sensibly to finish in runner-up spot after his impressive
opening win to secure second overall. Another
great performance from Jack Scarlett who continued to impress, his results
highlighting his determination to achieve top spot.
Effortless passing rewarded him with a fourth, third and third to secure
him third overall.
Desperate
to remain close to the leaders, David Bowen’s starts bode well for high
placings throughout the meeting, showing his face at the front of the field from
when the gate dropped. A third and two fourths ensured fourth overall was his.
An impressive ride from Marley Willegers secured him fifth overall,
pushing himself to the limit, and was awarded eighth, fifth and fifth to finish
one place ahead of Kieran Gabriele. Gabriele’s
perseverance and diligence paid off in every race, just narrowly missing out on
three top six placings toward the end of the day.
But a brilliant fifth and sixth rewarded his efforts with sixth overall.
The
Junior class were next to go with Jake Deacon a clear winner, dominating the
front of the field and passed the chequered flag as victor in all three races to
take the overall win. Oliver Evans was on top form throughout the meeting, riding a
perfect final moto to step up a place into second and ended the day in second
overall. Josh Bunter was hot on the
heels of Deacon in the opening motos, closing him down to finish in second in
both races. Even a slight hitch in
race three didn’t deter him from finishing within the top six and he ended the
meeting in third overall.
A
confident performance from Taylor Smith placed him high up the leader board
throughout the meeting, saving the best for last to pass the finish line in
third. Adding a fourth and fifth to
his points tally he took home fourth overall.
Matthew Dowse had a brilliant day on the track, convincing finishes
leaving him well ahead of his rivals. A
fifth and two fourths gave Dowse him fifth overall.
Just grabbing sixth overall, Taylor Hammal finished on the same points as
Jordan Kittow, but Hammal’s last gasp effort to push himself into fifth in the
final moto awarded him the higher position.
Although
the hilly track was daunting for the young Autos, they all tackled the track
with determination. Olivier Cook made it look easy and led from start to finish
to snatch all three wins to take home the overall victory.
Jay Ellis battled throughout the day with Jake Parker whose unfortunate
mechanical gremlins left him out of the overall placings.
But Ellis kept hard on the gas, putting a crash behind him to battle on,
and with an impressive last race second took second overall.
After such an undeserved ninth in race one, Danny Paige took the bit
between his teeth and strove hard to the front of the pack, grabbing two thirds
to secure third overall.
Keeping
well in touch with the leading trio Ben Richards kept his cool in the rising
heat to snatch another high placing, two well-executed fourth places adding
valuable points to his tally to leave him in fourth overall.
Liam “hardman” Jones deserved the award for most persevering rider on
the day. The opening race saw him bouncing hard on the final lap on the whoops
which left him kissing the dirt but he still pushed the bike across the line to
finish in fifth. Minutes later an
unconscious Liam was being carted away to hospital in the ambulance. To
everyone’s surprise Jones re-appeared for the remaining motos finishing in a
gallant sixth and fifth to reward himself with fifth overall.
Charlie Cole should have placed higher but an unfortunate last race which
left him trailing at the back didn’t highlight his capability of riding, race
two proving the point as he finished in second. A commendable sixth overall was awarded.
The
Inter 85s were the last group to go, and with the unfortunate early exit to
hospital for race one winner Billy Hare, David Roberts took complete control of
the group. With a clear lead he
impressively won the remaining motos to take the overall victory.
Dusting himself off after a nasty crash on the whoops, Michael Denton did
an impressive and unchallengeable job of staying ahead of his rivals, a second
in the final moto securing him second overall.
Visitor James Ford kept on the pace to keep near the leaders, a second
and third rewarding his efforts with third overall.
Rapidly
improving with every race, Daniel Lawler proved he has got what it takes to ride
at the head of the pack. Brilliantly
keeping his nerve to stay in second place for a number of laps ensured high
placings were on the cards, and with two fourths and an excellent third in moto
two rewarded his efforts with fourth overall.
Jack Cooper stayed focused throughout the meeting, holding off his rivals
with true grit, stepping on the gas in the final moto to move into fifth place
to finish fifth overall. A gallant
effort from Ryan Deick who could have placed higher, as his second moto proved,
finishing in fifth. An unfortunate
spill on the final corner lost him a valuable couple of places but still rode
well throughout the day to finish in sixth overall.
