FOXHOLES REPORT
The daunting hills
of the popular Foxhill circuit near Swindon welcomed 220 riders for the ninth
round of Portsmouth’s Summer Club Championship recently.
With only a couple of very light showers dampening the track, constant
watering kept the dust at bay and a brilliant day of racing was witnessed by the
masses of spectators.
The Inter 85 and Inter Open were grouped together and unsurprisingly the
Open class dominated the front of the field but the small wheel riders still
worked hard to keep up with the bigger wheeled boys and girls.
Over the four blocks of racing, Ian McEwan was a dominant figure at the
front of the pack, snatching all three wins to secure overall victory.
Bradley Wheeler grabbed the second race win and added a second and third
to finish second overall. Daniel
Maxey rode a hard race and kept in touch with the leaders to secure third
overall, two thirds and a fourth his final positions on the day.
Darren Wingar once again secured a high position thanks to his brilliant
starts, and narrowly missed out on securing the second race win.
A six, fourth and a second ensured he was rewarded with fourth overall.
George Clarke kept hard on the gas and remained well within the top six
throughout the day. Two fifths and
fourth rewarded his efforts with fifth overall.
Jack Scarlett kept hot on Clarkes back mudguard and rode an impressive
set of races. A seventh, fifth and
sixth resulted in another top six finish, sixth overall awarded on the day.
With only two gates spare at the start, the start straight was jam-packed
with Senior riders. Chris Wratten
quickly worked his way to the front of the pack and secured all three wins to
take first overall. Elliot Reeves
showed what a great rider he is if mechanical gremlins keep away and constantly
staying at the front of the pack secured him second overall, finishing in
fourth, third and third. A
brilliant opening race by Jake Hassell saw him just grab second ahead of the
chasing pack and with two more top ten positions, he finished third overall.
An impressive second placing in race two rewarded Jono Parker-Davies with
fourth overall and snatched the overall position away from Josh Scott after both
riders tied on the same points. Parker-Davies
remained near the front of the pack in his other two races, two sixth positions
awarding valuable points. Josh
Scott was set for a top three placing, after finishing in third and fourth, but
a crash in the second denied him a higher placing. An
eighth place still ensured he took home fifth overall.
Remaining within the top ten and staying in touch with the front runners,
Jake Myers snatched the final top six placing away from his rivals, a fifth in
the opening race awarding him high points.
Tyron Cleaver was the indubitable winner of the Junior class,
holeshotting the races and leading from start to finish.
A brilliant performance rewarded him three wins and the overall victory.
Jake Deacon was on great form as usual and secured second overall with
three consistent second places. A
nasty first corner crash didn’t deter feisty Jorja Johnson to grab a high
placing. Settling in fifth overall
in race one spurred her on to finish higher up the order and snatched another
two third places to take third overall.
An impressive return from injury saw Josh Bunter stay well in contention
of a top three placing, securing a third in the opening moto and he remained
well inside the top six for the rest of the meeting to take home fourth overall.
Connor Hallagan remained consistent in all three races, finishing in the
top six throughout the meeting, a sixth and two fourths rewarding him with fifth
overall. Taylor Hammal rode
assertively all day, staying out of trouble in each race and a brilliant sixth
in the opening moto resulted in him taking the final top six spot.
With a huge sigh of relief that the hills had been taped off, the Autos
battled around the challenging circuit, Olivier Cook taking it all in his stride
to settle back into first position in all three races and he took the overall
victory. Charlie Cole rode
brilliantly and kept his head to finish second in all motos to take second
overall. Liam Jones pushed himself
to the limit following the first race, and secured third spot in motos two and
three to take third overall away from Callum Gasson.
Callum Gasson kept hard on the gas to secure himself three top six
positions, a brilliant third in the first rewarding him with fourth overall.
Danny Paige ensured he stayed well in contention of a high placing by
finishing in fourth, fourth and fifth and ended the day in fifth overall.
Jay Ellis once again stayed fully focused on the job ahead of him, and
consistent and persistent racing rewarded him with sixth overall, passing the
chequered flag in sixth, sixth and seventh.
With such a huge entry of adult riders the AMX was split into two groups.
The visiting riders roared to the first corner in a cloud of dust with
Sebastian Osborne taking the overall win after Finbarr Kneafsey had dominated
the first two races but failed to appear in the final moto.
Osborne followed Kneafsey home in the opening motos but secured the final
race win to finish overall victor. Jamie
Smith fought hard at the front of the pack to finish in third and second to take
second overall. Relinquishing Club
championship points, Luke Blanchard rode with the visitors and gave the majority
of the field a run for their money. A
brilliant third in the second moto secured him third overall.
An impressive set of races from Brett Wheeler rewarded him with fourth
overall, just narrowly missing out on a higher position.
Chasing Blanchard hard in race one, he crossed the line in sixth and
added two fifth placings to ensure a top six position.
Max Tranah progressed throughout the day, pushing himself further up the
leader board with each race, an impressive and hard-earned fourth in race three
rewarding him with fifth overall. A
disastrous last race left Jordan Owen lower down the leader board than truly
deserved. After opening the day
with two fourth places, he unfortunately slipped back to 16th in his
final race, but still secured sixth overall.
An enormous turnout of VMX riders provided some enthralling racing.
Adrian Cowshall kept his nose just in front of his rivals, and secured
two wins to take the overall victory. Martin
Cole stormed ahead of the rest and could’ve snatched the overall win away from
Cowshall but an unfortunate clash in the final moto denied him the win.
But a second, a win and a fifth rewarded him with second overall.
Paul Williams finished in third overall, a couple of spills in race two
spoiling his run of high placings, but he regained his composure to snatch
second in the final moto to finish up in third.
Shaun Brooker was once again flying high in his class, great starts
ensuring a head-start ahead of the rest of the field.
Two fourths and a third combined with determination and consistent riding
awarded him fourth overall. A
long-awaited return from injury for Steve Lyons saw the rider gunning for a win,
a clear holeshot winner in the final moto ensuring he would remain at the front
of the pack. A fifth, third and
fourth rewarded him with fifth overall. Always
appearing in the top six, Alan Scott remained consistent and a force to be
reckoned with in all three races, scrapping hard to push himself further up the
leader board. He was eventually
rewarded sixth overall after passing the chequered flag in seventh, sixth and
seventh.
Last to go were the Portsmouth AMX boys, a magnificent turnout ensuring a
great display of entertaining racing was put on the for the spectators.
Still full of energy after his outing in the other AMX class, Sebastian
Osborne secured three straight wins, miles ahead of the remaining field to take
first overall. Jamie Tempest rode a
perfect set of races, and crossed the finish line in second in all motos to
secure second overall. Even with an
unfortunate spill on the final corner in the first race, Scott Robinson regained
his composure to chase home Tempest in the remaining motos to pass the chequered
flag in third to take third overall.
