FOXHOLES REPORT

Didn’t He Do Halla’Well!

Report by Kay Turner

The first round of Portsmouth Motocross Clubs Summer Series welcomed 195 riders to the popular Foxholes circuit near Salisbury.  A chilly day didn’t deter any rider from scoring valuable championship and qualifying points, and the action on the track warmed up right from the off.

With only two spare spaces on the start gate, the Inter Open class was an awesome sight speeding up the start straight.  Mathew Bayliss reigned supreme throughout the day, taking a clear lead to notch up two wins to take the overall victory.  Rob Muscat mastered the increasingly dusty track, keeping Bayliss within his sights, two seconds awarding him second overall.  Following close behind the front two, Lloyd Pettett crossed the line in fourth, third and third to grab third spot overall.

Returning after a long absence, Oliver Paine stayed on the front runners pace and returned to the top of the leaderboard, two brilliant fourths in the closing motos helping him finish in fourth overall.  A couple of mishaps left Jordan Carrier lower down than warranted, but with a fifth in the opening moto and top ten finishes, he secured fifth overall.  Great starts for Ryan Monckton aided his quest for supremacy at the front of the demanding class.  Finishing in fifth, sixth and tenth rewarded him with sixth overall.

Head-to-head battles in the Inter 85 class came courtesy of Liam Garland and Billy Hare, but it was to be Christopher Bayliss who stole the glory.  Unable to secure a win, he still took overall victory with two seconds and a third.  Hare’s first corner crash lost him valuable time but stormed back to take the second race win, and finished second in the last to take second overall.  A consistent set of finishes for Michael Denton kept him in the chase for a top position, a third, fourth and fifth awarding him third overall.

A brilliant start of third in race one ensured Andrew Hutchison a top overall finish, and he kept the leaders in his sights throughout the day, adding a fourth in race two to end up in fourth overall.  David Roberts pushed himself hard to improve on his first race result, and finishing in fifth in race two plus a sixth saw him finish in fifth overall.  Fraser Viner opened the day with a brilliant win, but having to stop mid-race in moto two saw his chances of a higher position scuppered, but he redeemed himself in moto three to finish in fourth, and took home sixth overall.

Some nail-biting action in the Juniors saw Jake Deacon holeshotting the opening motos and he remained at the front of the pack to snatch two wins to be overall victor.  Josh Coleman kept on the pace, following in behind Deacon in motos one and two, but grabbed a win for himself in the final race to finish second overall.  Jamie Carpenters third positions ensured a top placing for the talented youngster, finishing third overall.

Lewis Dowdeswell pushed himself harder with each race, and will be one to watch.  Improving throughout the day, he passed the chequered flag in sixth, fifth and then a brilliant fourth to finish fourth overall.  A welcome return for Taylor Smith who kept on the pace all day, starting the day off well finishing in fifth position, and ending the day in sixth to take fifth overall.  Brilliant starts bode well for Ryan Turner, reaching the first corner within the top five each race, and achieved his first ever holeshot in race three.  Staying at the front of the pack throughout the day, he achieved three top ten positions, a brilliant seventh in race two awarding him sixth overall.

After his success in the Winter series, Olivier Cook carried on where he left off, securing three convincing wins to take overall victory in the Auto class.  An outstanding performance from Jay Ellis saw the youngster holeshot all three races, and he kept on the gas to take the runner-up spot with three second places.  An impressive set of results rewarded Tyler Hallawell with third overall, two third positions proving he will be one to watch.

Charlie Cole battled hard to take third overall away from Hallawell, having the upper hand in race one to finish third, but settled for two fourth places in the remaining motos to position fourth overall.  Continuing to improve at each race meeting, Ben Richards rode consistently well, finishing fifth in each race to take the fifth overall spot.  Steadily improving throughout the day, Charlie Sturgess moved up one position each moto, finishing eighth, seventh then slotting into sixth place in the final race to finish sixth overall.

A four-way battle commenced at the front of the AMX pack, a brilliant spectacle for the watching crowds.  With no-one anywhere near catching him, Wes Hallawell was on a roll for a straight set of wins, but his machine stalled in race two leaving him stranded on the first corner.  But a tremendous effort to push himself up into third position rewarded him with overall victory, thanks to his additional two wins.  Chris Southcott remained at the front of the pack throughout the day, battling hard with Jamie Tempest and Harry Betram, finishing in third, second and fourth to take second spot.  Betram grabbed the second race win to secure a top spot, a third and sixth ensuring he finished in third overall.

An impressive performance by Jamie Tempest awarded him fourth overall, but he should have been second.  An unfortunate tumble in race two saw him lose valuable time as he was unable to re-start his bike, but he didn’t lose momentum and ploughed through the field from last to finish 17th.  His two second places in races one and three were a pleasure to watch and secured him enough points to finish in fourth.  Tying on points with Tempest, Ian Tallack slotted into fifth overall, working hard to stay at the front of the pack, steering his Honda into a brilliant fourth in race two to secure him his high placing.  A 125cc amongst the four-strokes is a rare sight these days, but Sean Lock impressively powered his machine around the track, three top ten positions a just reward for his hard work.  Two fifths and a seventh secured him sixth overall.

The VMX boys put on an equally good show of speed and prowess, Steve Lyons the dominant figure at the front.  Two wins and a second rewarded him with the overall victory.  Shaun Brooker steered his trusty KTM around the track, working hard to keep his positions, grabbing second in moto two to finish up in second overall.  Paul Williams grabbed the last race win away from Lyons, and consistently battled at the front of the field to take third overall.

Richard “I’m back from retirement AGAIN!” Paine showed he has still got what it takes to be at the top of his game, as he pushed through the exhaustion barrier to finish fourth overall.  Keeping up with the leaders, he finished in fourth, third and third to stay well in contention.  Alan Scott brought out his shiny new machine to continue his run of good results, three top six positions rewarding him with fifth overall, a fourth in race two his highest placing on the day.  Battling hard with Scott in all three motos, Chad Sait stayed on the throttle throughout the meeting, and a fifth, fifth and sixth secured him sixth overall.

A full line up of Seniors revved their engines to crowd the track, but Jackson Evans was the clear winner on the day.  Impressive and precise in all motos, Evans secured three straight wins.  A remarkable performance from Jake Hassell proved he has what it takes, and with two second places finished in second overall.  Elliot Reeves rode a steady and consistent set of races, remaining at the front of the pack to pass the chequered flag in third in all motos, finishing up in third overall.

Continuing his charge at the front of the pack, Chris Bick opened the day with a magnificent second in the first moto, remaining consistent and rapid ahead of his rivals, he added a fourth and fifth to secure fourth overall.  Tom White rode a confident and dominant set of races, challenging the leaders to finish in fifth overall, crossing the line in fifth, sixth and sixth.  A higher position should have been on the cards for Harrison Moore, but even with a lower-than-usual score in race three, he still managed to grab sixth overall, a sixth and fifth upping his points tally.
