Swanmore Report

Report by Kay Turner

Portsmouth Motocross Club finally managed to put on the third round of their Winter Championship at Swanmore recently.  Horrendous weather forecasts threatened to halt proceedings the day before but rain didn’t stop play for once on race day.  All riders were chomping at the bit to get out on their bikes and provided some exciting racing for the freezing spectators.

The young Autos started off the day with David Keet taking the win overall, just narrowly missing out on three straight wins, passing the last race victory to second-placed Hamish Stewart-Ross.  Stewart-Ross looked more comfortable on his new Cobra finishing in second, third and first.  Third-placed Aaron Gordon passed Stewart-Ross in the second moto to gain his highest position of the day to cross the line in second.  With a brilliant lead in race one resulting in a third place, Camlann MacDonald started his new year off well to finish in fourth spot overall.  Adjusting to the conditions well, Charlie Way finished in a credible fifth overall, races two and three awarding him fifth places.  A fine sixth overall finish for Jamie-Lee Burges who rode steadily throughout the day.

The AMX and VMX battled it out together with no surprise to see Luke Blanchard at the front of the field.  Completely missing the start in race one he gave the others a clear head start, but soon settled himself in the lead and took three straight wins. Battling hard with Harvey MacDonald in race one, Ian Tallack had to settle for third place, but was soon chasing down Blanchard to finish in second in the remaining motos.  Chopping and changing positions with Tallack, Allen Waring took third overall, inspired by his overall win at the last round.  After a brilliant start with a second in the first moto, Harvey MacDonald finally finished in fourth overall, followed by Tom Moore who stayed in touch with the front of the pack, a fourth in race two his highest result.  Another rider who missed the start of the race, John Howett still powered his way through the field to finish in a credible sixth overall.

Senior rider Chris Wratten was heading for an overall victory by winning race one, but made a premature exit out of the pits due to concussion.  Sebastian Osborne took over the lead to take the overall victory with a second and two convincing wins.  Dudley MacDonald rode at his best to take second overall, two second places to his name.  A great effort and two third places left Aaron Bowden finishing in third overall.  Josh “Holeshot” Scott set top spot in his sights, and came close in race two, finishing in second, and with two fifth places was finally awarded fourth overall.  After such a run of bad luck, Wes Thomas was determined to prove his worth on the race track and did just that, finishing fourth in his second moto and finished in fifth overall.  Impressively improving throughout the day, Aaron Pearce saved the best race for last to finish in fourth and sixth overall on the day.

Thomas Lilley proved a great signing to the Club grabbing the victory with two seconds and a third.  Chris Noyce had the best start to his day by winning race one, and with a second in race three left him sitting in second overall.  Ever-improving Jordan Carrier had a successful day finishing in third overall.  Mitchell Bligh should have taken overall victory, winning the last two races but a puncture in the opening moto left him in fourth.  His lead was outstanding throughout the day.  James Gatcum finished in fifth overall, a brilliant fourth in race one aiding his cause.  Swapping positions with his fellow riders throughout all three races, Jordan Moyle battled hard all day to finish in a great sixth overall, a fifth in the final moto his best result.

Relying on his trusty two-stroke, Rob Muscat took complete control of the Inter 85 class and tucked three wins under his crash helmet.  A constant battle between Fraser Viner and Oliver Paine awarded them a second and third place each, but Fraser took second overall due to Paine’s no-show in race three.  Darren Wingar left his competitors way behind to finish in third overall, a third place his best result of the day.  Visitor Daniel Guy took over fourth position ahead of visiting rider Harry Hinson who blasted around the circuit on his 150F.  A gallant sixth overall for Cameron Vickers, two sevenths and a ninth providing him with enough points to stay in the top six.

A bit late, but what a great Christmas present to give to his dad.  Levi Coombes constant determination paid off with three fine wins and overall victory.  A scrap was on for the remaining top places, a number of riders involved.  Joshua Coleman came off best by finishing in second in the first and last races to take second overall, with Tallon Aspden tying on points to finish in third, two thirds and a second to his name.  Gently nudging her rivals aside, Bethany Farmer powered around the track to take fourth overall, a third in race two a brilliant result.  Harvey Clements battled hard with Farmer to take fifth overall. Scoring a memorable holeshot to the delight of his parents, Daniel Lawler rode consistently to finish in sixth overall, finishing sixth in each moto.
