Waring the world did Allen come from?!

Report by Kay Turner

Portsmouth Motocross Clubs opening round of their Winter Series recently took place at the hilly West Meon circuit, just over 150 riders braving the damp and cold to compete on the treacherous track.

The Junior class started off proceedings, with Oliver Osmaston returning to Club level to take charge well ahead of his rivals, three straight wins awarding him the victory. Second place was awarded to Kieran Stevens who finished second in the first two motos, only to relinquish the position to brother Kyle in the last.  Ever-improving Tallon Aspden rode well throughout the day to take third overall, a third in the last his best result.

With a large number of Auto riders competing at Sheffield, a handful remained behind with David Keet taking all three wins on the day.  Hamish Stewart-Ross fought hard to keep Aaron Gordon off his tail, and finished in second overall with three second places.  Gordon rode magnificently to finish in a well-earned third overall, three straight thirds a great start to his winter campaign.

Due to limited racing hours in the day, the AMX and VMX battled together with the younger lads struggling to keep the veterans behind.  Both Luke Blanchard and Martin Bradbury initially found themselves top of their classes, but with Blanchard sustaining a puncture in race two and Bradbury ending up unconscious and in the back of the ambulance it was down to AMX debutant Allen Waring to take the overall lead, winning the second race in fine style.  Shaun Brooker took over where Bradbury left off, and won his class.

Some familiar faces returned in the Senior class, Max Tranah taking over the top ranking with two seconds and a win in race two.  A win just evading him, Jamie Tempest settled for second overall with Sebastian Osborne missing out on the chance to snatch all three race wins.  Races one and three were in the bag but an 11th in race two left him trailing in third overall.

Unstoppable Jackson Evans took the first two race wins and the overall victory in the Inter Open class, with visitor Thomas Lilley keeping second place all to himself, with three straight seconds.  A brilliant holeshot awarded Mitchell Bligh with third overall, some great racing provided by all the front runners.

An uncharacteristic slip in race one by Inter 85 rider Rob Muscat handed Oliver Paine the race win, but Muscat ensured the overall victory was his on the day, finishing the meeting off with two race wins.  Paine stuck to his guns and battled head-to-head with Lloyd Pettett, the race win giving him the extra points to take second overall.  Pettett’s two seconds awarded him the same points but Oli was to be the Paine in Lloyd’s side, and settled for third overall.
