West Kennet Report Report by Kay Turner Portsmouth MX Club Round 2 Winter Series West Kennet – 30th October 2011 Image courtesy of click466.co.uk For once the rain was a welcome sight for all those who arrived at West Kennet for the second round of Portsmouth MX Clubs winter series, as the damp conditions made the track perfect, and the threat of dust was washed away as the mud played its part in keeping the riders on their toes, with parts of the track becoming quite treacherous. With a full line-up of adults, Zac Blackwell was the runaway winner, stretching his lead on the rest of the pack, and scored a maximum with three clear wins and took home the overall victory. Rob Muscat was hot on Blackwells heels as he endeavoured to close the gap, settling for three second places and second place overall. Jordan Owen kept himself in contention for a top placing, finishing well within the top six throughout the day, an impressive third in the final moto securing him third overall. A trio of EVO riders joined in the muddy fun, Fraser Phipps the highest ranking rider during the day securing first in his class. After securing the top Novice place in race one, Michael Talmage had to pass the lead over to brother Jordan who secured two wins in the second and third moto to take home the overall in his group. Shaun Hayles showed the youngsters how it should be done, as he worked his way through the pack into eighth spot in the final moto, powering the Yamaha home to secure top spot in the VMX class. With the Autos and Juniors joining forces, the younger riders gave the Juniors a run for their money, but Ryan Tanner soon took charge of the field, and powered his way home to three straight wins, bagging the overall victory in his class. Xavier Cook was set for three second places, but a disaster in race two left him having to work his way up from mid-pack, but still did enough in his other races to secure second overall. An impressive effort from Ollie Cole kept him well within the top six, and securing a third place in race three, he finished the day third overall. Another scrap between Autos Luke Williamson and Toby Potter saw both riders bagging a win each in their class, but Williamsons unfortunate early retirement in race three due to mechanical problems left Potter to steal away the overall win. Giving it all his worth in race three, Liam Ware stormed into the runners up spot, the mud no match for him, and he took away second overall on the day. Billy Duke had a battle on his hands to ensure Max Haddon didn’t take his place on the track, and impressive finishes secured him third overall. A good turnout of Senior riders were next to the line, all riders bar-bashing their way into the first corner, but Jordan Carrier got cleanly away and sped out in front, without anyone close enough to catch him, three perfect first places securing the overall win. Josh Broadway still kept Carrier in his sights and could have easily secured second overall, race two his downfall leaving him in tenth place, but his two second places rewarded him with second overall. As the track became like an ice-rink, Connor Davis was heading for a great comeback after dislocating his shoulder, but a nasty spill denied him the final top spot, but Andy Fitzgerald remained seated and took over the position, working his hardest to keep Michael Denton off his tail, and a brilliant third in race one ensuring he did so, finishing the day in third overall. Michael Ellis was the clear winner in the big wheeled 85 class, three perfectly executed first places securing him a comfortable overall win. A great sight to see Jake Deacon return to the club, and he was on fire as usual as he chased Ellis down in all three motos, securing three second places and second overall. After a brilliant third in race one, Chris Nuttall was heading for a trio of third places, but a nasty spill on the first corner denied him. Redeeming himself in race three to power his way into third again, he took home third overall. The smaller wheeled 85 riders were the last to go with Henry Siddiqui once again taking top honours in the class, the runaway winner with three easy victory’s, he powered home to take first overall. Harry Pritchard rode a brilliant set of races, comfortably settling into the runner up spot in all motos, finishing the day in second overall. Olivier Cook stormed into third place in the opening moto, and kept hard on the charge in his remaining motos securing two fifths and ended the day in third overall.
